Fotos da Praia

I spent the first half of 2014 studying in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and tried to use this time to think more creatively about my photography. While I was in Rio, I focused my energy on the subject matter instead of the technical process of making a photograph. I tried to simplify as much as possible and soon found myself leaving my Nikon at home in favor of my Iphone camera. I enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture the essence of a place, without my normal tools because it allowed for an unobtrusive view that also pushed me to be more creative with my technique and vision. These photos are the result of this personal project and focus on the specific culture that can be found at Rio's beaches.
